NEWPORT NEWS — Police arrested a teenager in connection with a homicide that happened in the Denbigh area in July.
On Thursday, authorities arrested a 16-year-old, who police said is not being identified due to his age. He was charged with first-degree murder, two counts of use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, robbery and assault in the commission of a felony.
The charges stem from the night of July 17, when officers responded to the 0 block of Teardrop Lane, a residential area near Warwick Boulevard, for a shooting. Two men had been found with gunshot wounds, one inside a vehicle and another on the ground near the vehicle. Jason Ernesto Martinez Hernandez, 19, later died at a hospital.
Police previously arrested 18-year-old Edward Maurice Barcus, of Newport News, on July 28. He was charged with aggravated malicious wounding, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony and other weapons offenses.
No other information has been released.
