Veteran wide receiver Brandin Cooks visited the Ravens last week, but it did not lead to an agreement. Cooks is now joining San Francisco’s practice squad, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
The 49ers coasted to a 2-0 start with blowout wins over the Rams and Dolphins, but they are bringing in Cooks after their receiving corps took a few shots over the past several weeks. It began when Ricky Pearsall underwent season-ending knee surgery in August, and then Christian Kirk went on injured reserve-designated for return a few weeks later.
Already without Pearsall and Kirk, the 49ers lost second-round rookie De’Zhaun Stribling and Demarcus Robinson to serious ankle injuries in the first two weeks. Stribling is on IR and could miss around 10 weeks, while head coach Kyle Shanahan said an IR placement may be in store for Robinson (via Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area).
The 33-year-old Cooks is the latest highly accomplished wideout heading to San Francisco, which picked up Mike Evans and reunited with Deebo Samuel in free agency.
