HILLSBORO, Ore. — The UND football program improved to 3-0 late Saturday night with a 47-23 win over Portland State at Hillsboro Stadium.

1. Injuries impact secondary
UND starting safety Tyler Erkman didn't play against Portland State after suffering an injury during warm-ups. Sam Ostrenga started opposite of Avery Dixon at safety in Erkman's place.
UND coach Eric Schmidt said it's an injury Erkman has been dealing with for a while.
"He hadn't had any (problems with the injury) the last three weeks," Schmidt said. "We know what we're working with there, so we'll keep trying to strengthen it as much as we can."
Ostrenga finished with two tackles.
UND corner Ben Kamara also played a bit through a nagging injury against the Vikings.
"I shouldn't have put him in late," Schmidt said. "The best thing would've been to keep him on the sideline."
2. Tai steps up
Korey Tai put together the best game of his UND career with 140 receiving yards. He now has 12 catches for 274 yards and four touchdowns through three games this year.
