The competition was fierce Saturday afternoon at the 5th annual Big Axe BBQ Cook-Off at the George H. Henderson Jr. Exposition Center.
Barbecue began Friday with more than 15 teams vying for top place.
Ultimately, it was Post Oak Cookers who took home the grand champion trophy.
"I'm out of Thorndale, and I've been barbecuing for about 10 years now," said Jamie Beran with Post Oak Cookers. "When I married my wife, it just became a family tradition. I'm pretty happy with the win."
Jereme Skrabanek with Big Slick Cookers took home the reserve champion trophy.
"Started at a VFW over a couple of beers and ended up here," he said. "I've been barbecuing now for a good 12 or 15 years, give or take."
Phillip Figueroa with Strickland Plumbing HVAC & Electric won best brisket.
"The barbecue we cook is some American Wagyu, just a simple salt and pepper mixture," he said. "This is actually our first competition."
The event was sponsored by Ferrara's Heating & Air Conditioning.
