Whether it’s caring for our nation’s veterans, helping a neighbor in need or defending our freedom, Nebraskans understand the importance of serving those around them.
Recently, that commitment was on full display across our state. I was proud to witness and share the spirit of service that makes Nebraska so special.
I celebrated the groundbreaking of a new Gathering Place facility. The Gathering Place has served Lincoln for more than four decades, offering hot meals to hundreds of residents every evening. The current facility is a century-old house with a 120-square-foot kitchen, which is in desperate need of an upgrade. I’m excited to see the additional lives that will be touched once the new space is finished.
Next, I met with the Rare Disease Legislative Advocates to discuss legislation advancing access to rare disease treatments and cures. I was proud to cosponsor the Accelerating Kids’ Access to Care Act and the Give Kids a Chance Act, which were both signed into law earlier this year. Today, over 30 million Americans suffer from one of 7,000 rare diseases. I know we can count on Nebraskans to continue advocating for those who need it most.
