ABB has announced plans to invest more than CA$130 million (approximately US$100 million) to enhance its research, development, and manufacturing facilities in Canada. This significant investment, the largest in the company's Canadian history, will focus on a new greenfield site in Montreal, Quebec. The facility will unify ABB’s existing Iberville and Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu operations, creating a state-of-the-art 340,000-square-foot complex equipped with advanced automation and digital technologies.
The new location aims to support growth in vital sectors such as utilities, renewable energy, transportation, and infrastructure development nationwide. It will sustain over 600 current jobs across manufacturing, R&D, engineering, testing, and support functions, with plans to generate additional employment as production scales up.
Scheduled to open in mid-2027, the facility will be situated in Montreal's South Shore region. It will incorporate energy-efficient systems to significantly reduce carbon emissions—by over 95%—compared to the existing sites. The project benefits from CA$16 million (around US$12 million) in funding from Investissement Québec.
