In the past year, registered charitable organizations in Afghanistan have collectively contributed over one billion Afghanis in donations to support the needy nationwide, according to the Ministry of Justice. The donations, totaling approximately 1.11 billion Afghanis, along with foreign currencies including $382,000, €20,000, and 500,000 Pakistani rupees, were coordinated with relevant authorities and distributed across various sectors such as food and non-food aid, healthcare, education, vocational training, and employment initiatives.
The Ministry's report indicates that 141 charitable foundations, with 65 operating in Kabul and the remainder in other provinces, have played a significant role in alleviating hardship. Despite these efforts, international agencies highlight that over 23 million people in Afghanistan remain in urgent need of humanitarian aid, with funding shortages threatening essential services. Domestic charities have increasingly complemented foreign assistance, especially amid sanctions and economic downturns, proving crucial in alleviating poverty and unemployment in the short term.
