In late August, the NYU women’s soccer team rode the bus deep into Long Island, where they attended a preseason camp and played their first scrimmage against Farmingdale State College. The trip emphasized team bonding through travel, and the Violets touched up on their skills, strategies and stamina before returning to the field from summer break.
“That was a really good chemistry builder,” SPS senior and team captain Chloe Deters told WSN. “Getting everybody’s fitness levels up to par, as well as just playing so much, really lets us prepare for the season.”
The Violets jumped into the season this month with victories against Babson College and the Stevens Institute of Technology, along with a tie against No. 5-ranked Massachusetts Institute of Technology and a loss to the No. 9-ranked Messiah University. The fall season looks to be a tough one for the currently unranked Violets, who will play mostly ranked teams — teams polled to be in the top 25 in NCAA DIII standings — throughout conference play. They’ll also compete at the UAA Championships, an annual conference for teams competing in the NCAA Division III league that directly impacts whether they qualify for the championship.
