PHOENIX – The Kyrene School District announced on August 3 that Kyrene de la Sierra Elementary School will remain closed through fall break, shifting to remote learning starting August 4.
Details reveal that recent indoor air quality tests over the weekend showed elevated particulate matter levels. While these levels are not confirmed to be harmful, the district emphasizes caution, with official results expected within 5-7 days. As a precaution, the school will not reopen until after the fall break scheduled from September 29 to October 10.
The school is currently undergoing roof renovations, which began prior to the start of the academic year on July 23. The district aims to complete asbestos and off-gassing-related construction work by October to ensure a safe environment for students and staff.
