Alaska Fish Creek Sport Fishery Opening and Regulations
The Alaska Department of Fish and Game (ADF&G) has announced the upcoming opening of the Fish Creek sport fishery on August 9, citing a robust sockeye salmon run. Consequently, they are increasing the daily and possession limits for salmon, excluding king salmon, to six fish per day, with a maximum of two coho salmon included in the limit.
Regulation Details
This regulation applies across all waters of Fish Creek within a quarter-mile radius of its confluence with Knik Arm, extending upstream to a designated ADF&G marker approximately a quarter-mile upstream from Knik-Goose Bay Road. The new limits will be effective from 5:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 9, until 10:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 16, 2025. Sport fishing will be permitted daily from 5:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.
Angler Restrictions and Gear Regulations
Once anglers reach the bag limit, they are prohibited from fishing in any salmon waters on the same day. Bait and multiple hooks—no more than two single hooks or two treble hooks per line—are allowed in this fishery.
