Alexandria Aims to Sustain Momentum in the Upcoming Class B State Amateur Baseball Tournament
The Alexandria Angels, riding a strong wave of recent success, are preparing to compete in the upcoming Class B state amateur baseball tournament. Fresh from capturing the District 5B championship, the team enters the national stage with high confidence, having won 11 of their last 12 games since mid-June.
After a slow start to the season, with a 5-4 record, the team found its rhythm and has been performing at a high level, outscoring opponents 33-11 during district play. Team leader Jerrod Zens reflected on their journey, stating, "We started a bit slow, but we believed in ourselves and stuck to our game plan. We’re excited about this opportunity and have enjoyed a great season so far."
The tournament, hosted in Brandon for the first time, begins on August 6. Alexandria will face Lake Norden Lakers in the opening game at 7:30 p.m., kicking off a 12-day competition at First National Bank Field. The winner will advance to face either Flandreau Cardinals or Parkston Mudcats in the next round.
