This is the kind of legislative nightmare that never seems to end.
Let’s see if we have this all straight:
Former state Sen. Dan McKeon of Amherst was accused by a legislative staffer of making a sexually charged remark and touching her inappropriately on her posterior. Mr. McKeon has denied any improper conduct.
The lawmaker subsequently resigned his post as a result of the accusation and faced a Class 3 misdemeanor charge for disturbing the peace. That case was dismissed in August after he successfully completed a court diversion program.
The legislative staff member, in the meantime, filed an informal sexual harassment complaint to the legislature’s executive board in June. The staff member alleged that Mr. McKeon continued awkward interaction with her despite being instructed by the executive board to have no further contact with her.
In July, the staff member filed a formal sexual harassment complaint to the board, which required those lawmakers to conduct an investigation and respond to the complaint according to an established timeline.
At this point, one might think that this whole unseemly incident was wrapping up given the former senator’s resignation and his case working...
