Josh Allen wasted no time turning Buffalo’s glittering new stadium into his own stage.
The Bills quarterback accounted for five touchdowns, throwing three and running for two more, as Buffalo beat the Detroit Lions 41-31 on Thursday night in the first regular-season game at Highmark Stadium. In a building some fans have already nicknamed The House that Allen built, he delivered the sort of performance that matched the setting.
Buffalo opened with touchdown drives on its first four possessions, and Allen was the engine from the start. He scored the first regular-season touchdown in the new stadium on a one-yard run early in the first quarter, then hit Josh Palmer for a 43-yard strike on the next march. By halftime, Allen had also found Dalton Kincaid for 16 yards and Dawson Knox for a one-yard score, helping the Bills seize control before the Lions could settle in.
The quarterback finished 20 of 31 for 248 yards and added 72 yards on the ground. His latest five-touchdown outing came one week after he produced four touchdowns in Buffalo’s win at Houston. It was the fourth time in his career that he has reached five total scores in a game.
