Amy Adams Addresses Pay Disparity: Equal Negotiation Power Between Men and Women
In a recent interview, actress Amy Adams shared her perspective on wage differences in Hollywood, contrasting her views with those of her colleague Jennifer Lawrence. Back in 2013, Lawrence publicly criticized the significant pay gap she experienced during the filming of "American Hustle," highlighting disparities between her and her male co-stars.
However, Adams offers a different explanation. She suggests that individual actors negotiate their contracts independently, and that social conditioning may influence women to accept initial offers without pushing for more. Adams explained to GQ:
"I haven't discussed this publicly before, and I probably won't in the future, because I disagree with the idea that women are inherently paid less. It's more about personal negotiation and societal expectations. I knew I was earning less but chose to accept it because declining wasn't always an option. It's about deciding whether it's worth it for you."
She further emphasized the importance of women finding their voice and challenging cultural conditioning that discourages assertiveness in negotiations.
