Ancient Aztec Skull Tower Discovered Near Mexico City's Templo Mayor

Archaeological discovery in Mexico City uncovers an ancient tower composed of hundreds of human skulls, found near the site of the historic Aztec Templo Mayor. Researchers believe that this structure was once part of the Huey Tzompantli, a massive skull scaffold used by the Aztecs to display the remains of warriors and other victims, possibly as a psychological tactic against enemies. Notably, many of the skulls belong to women and children, suggesting complex social or ritualistic practices previously undocumented. The tower measures approximately six meters in diameter and is situated close to the chapel dedicated to Huitzilopochtli, the Aztec sun god, known for human sacrifices. This significant find offers new insights into Aztec rituals and societal structure, highlighting the depth of their cultural complexities.
