The annual replacement of tactile paving strips in the city of Meadville is underway.
Also known as detectable warning surfaces or “truncated domes” due to the shape of the bumps that distinguish them from surrounding sidewalks, tactile paving strips are the plastic rectangles that can be found where sidewalks meet street crossings around the city. Like the sidewalk ramps they are typically found on, the strips are required by the Americans with Disabilities Act to indicate the transition from sidewalk to roadway or other potentially dangerous changes in surface elevation.
