A controversial proposal to build a large apartment complex on 32.35 acres near Interstate 285 and Eller Road in northern Davidson County was withdrawn Monday night, leaving dozens who had come to speak out against it frustrated after waiting through a lengthy meeting.
The proposal may still be resubmitted.
The proposed development site is on the southeast corner of Interstate 285 and Eller Road in Midway Township. The property is owned by CBJ Development Corp.
Group 21 LLC — a construction and land development business registered with the N.C. Secretary of State with the address 808 N. Main St., Lexington — had sought to rezone the property from RA-3 Rural Agricultural District to CZ-RM-2 Conditional Zoning High Density Residential District to allow the development of six three-story buildings, each with 48 units.
However, before the public hearing began, attorney La-Deidre D. Matthews, representing Group 21, requested that the hearing be rescheduled for October because a principal developer with Group 21 was unable to attend.
