Apple and Corning Collaborate on Domestic Glass Manufacturing
Apple and Corning have unveiled a significant enhancement of their collaboration aimed at producing high-quality glass for Apple devices within the United States. In a statement released Wednesday, Apple announced a $2.5 billion investment to manufacture all cover glass for iPhone and Apple Watch models at Corning's facility in Harrodsburg, Kentucky.
First Time Domestic Production for Global Products
This initiative marks the first time that every piece of cover glass for these products worldwide will be produced domestically. The companies also revealed plans to dedicate the entire Kentucky plant exclusively to Apple-related manufacturing, which will boost Corning's local manufacturing and engineering workforce by 50%.
Establishment of Apple-Corning Innovation Center
Additionally, a new Apple-Corning Innovation Center will be established at the Harrodsburg site. This center is expected to play a pivotal role in researching and developing advanced materials and next-generation manufacturing technologies for future Apple products.
