The borough is undertaking renovations of three Gravity Slope Colliery buildings close to the Lackawanna River Heritage Trail, supported by a $235,000 state grant aimed at revitalizing local historic sites. In tandem, efforts are underway to develop an inclusive bike shed at the same location, funded by a $74,000 Department of Conservation and Natural Resources grant. This new facility will feature accessible design elements, enabling wheelchair users to conveniently enjoy biking along the trail without the need for specialized equipment or transportation, thus promoting inclusivity. Valley in Motion, a local organization, is managing the project and collaborating with stakeholders to finalize design plans. Once completed, the structure will facilitate independent access to adaptive bikes, expanding recreational opportunities for individuals with mobility challenges.
