The Cabin Spring Fire near Ten Sleep is estimated to be 20 acres in size. According to the Bighorn National Forest Service, local crews, including helicopters, fixed-wing aircraft, engines, and San Juan and Lassen Hotshots, are responding. As of Thursday morning, residents in Zones 9 and 10 in Washakie County were placed on a "READY" evacuation status, while residents in Zone 11, north of Highway 436 and East of U-S Highway 16 to the county line, were "SET" for evacuations.
Prescribed burns are getting underway across the Bridger-Teton National Forest, with fire crews planning work through Dec. 31. The Bridger-Teton National Forest Service says, crews will burn piles and conduct two broadcast burns near Taylor Mountain and Slate Creek. No closures are planned, but drivers are asked to watch for smoke, firefighters and warning signs. Burns depend on weather conditions.
