“Sometimes the simple thing is the best,” Ashlynn Park said ahead of her spring 2027 runway show. While her designs look and feel easy to wear, her methodology remains rooted in her architectural approach to pattern-making, which continues to set her apart.
This season she focused on the two-dimensional square. By limiting herself to the shape, Park said it enabled her to explore its infinite possibilities through folding, cutting, draping and joining. Enticing and easy, playful examples included polo shirts with angular drapes or exposed backs. One model clad in a robin’s egg blue bandeau top even pulled up the softly draped peplum of her long matching skirt to reveal its square, flat points.
The process of building clothes, stemming from the Korean expression 엍을 31다, also continued through the collection. The designer explained that waterfall draped viscose jersey skirts were crafted by pulling up one hem of the square silhouette, while her bulbous jackets continued Park’s “Puzzle” series and ruched and draped panels extended the designer’s Shikaku look.
