For Brownsburg High School quarterback Oscar Frye, there is no substitute for experience.
“You get the experience and grow as an individual and grow as a leader,” he said. “Games really start to slow down. I feel like I’m able to understand things, really take everything in and process everything. Just being able to get more reps in practice and games makes it that much easier.”
Bulldogs coach John Hart said the three-year starter has a strong grasp of the game.
“Oscar is like a coach on the field. He knows what the defense is doing, why they are doing it and where the ball goes,” Hart said.
Hart said Frye’s interception-to-touchdown ratio is similar to Fernando Mendoza’s, who led Indiana University to the national championship. Frye has 62 career TD passes with only 10 interceptions.
“It’s why they are both winners,” Hart said.
Prior to Sept. 11, the two-time defending IHSAA Class 6A state champions had won 22 consecutive games.
Frye said the coaches set a high standard.
