Hamilton Southeastern High School girls soccer player Sydney May has always been offensive minded.
“I’ve always loved to score as long as I can remember,” she said. “When I was younger, if anyone asked me to play defense, it was, ‘No, I just want to score.’ I like making opportunities to score for my teammates, too.”
In the first 10 games, the junior forward had 18 goals and seven assists for the unbeaten defending state champion Royals.
“Sydney has a passion to score goals,” HSE coach Greg Davidson said. “That she has worked incredibly hard on her technical skills and her 1 vs. 1 attacking techniques is an understatement. She is also such a joy to coach and her teammates absolutely adore her. Her love for the game but her zest for life is infectious.”
May scored 11 goals last season and had 16 as a freshman.
May and her sister, Sloane May, helped HSE win its first IHSAA girls state soccer title, topping Carmel 1-0 in last year’s Class 3A state final. Sloane May was named the Gatorade Indiana Girls Soccer Player of the Year and United Soccer Coaches 2025 National Player of the Year.
