The ATP Tour has announced the relocation of its upcoming November tournament from Belgrade, Serbia, to Athens, Greece. While no official explanation has been provided, Serbian media suggest that Novak Djokovic and his family, who manage the event, are responsible for the change. Djokovic, a 24-time Grand Slam winner, recently voiced his support for student protests against government corruption in Serbia. His brother, Djordje Djokovic, has served as the tournament director since 2021.
The event, now called the Hellenic Championship, will be held on indoor hard courts at the OAKA Basketball Arena in Athens. Organizers stated, "The ATP 250 Hellenic Championship is organized by the experienced team behind nine previous international tournaments in Belgrade. This new event continues that tradition, with preparations underway to host a top-tier tournament in historic Athens."
They added, "We are excited to welcome the global tennis community to Greece this November."
