Ayr Wellness to Close Massachusetts Dispensaries and Lay Off Over 150 Employees Amid Restructuring
Ayr Wellness, a multi-state cannabis enterprise based in Miami, Florida, is set to shut down all its Massachusetts operations, resulting in the layoffs of over 150 employees. The company announced that it will lay off 157 staff members in Massachusetts by September 29, as per a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification filed with the state on July 31. The Massachusetts facilities include retail dispensaries located in Boston's Back Bay, Needham, Somerville, and Watertown, operating under the name Sira Naturals, which is the business license holder for the state's dispensaries. Additionally, Ayr maintains cultivation and manufacturing centers in Milford. As of July 17, all Sira Naturals licenses in Massachusetts were reported as active. Beyond Massachusetts, Ayr Wellness has operations in Connecticut, Florida, Illinois, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Ohio, and Nevada. Recently, the company disclosed a restructuring plan involving the sale of its assets and the winding down of its remaining operations across all states. Besides retail outlets and cultivation sites, Ayr produces cannabis products under brands such as Kynd, Haze, Later Days, and Levia.
