The committee has no legal power to prevent individuals or groups from taking part in Junkanoo festivities across the country. Recent discussions about new legislation aim to recognize Junkanoo as a national cultural treasure owned collectively by Bahamian citizens and to enhance its management. In response, the JCNP announced a suspension of participation, particularly attempting to bar groups from participating in the Emancipation Day celebrations in Fox Hill. Such assertions of authority are unfounded and should be dismissed.
