Beckley Water celebrates Source Water Protection Week with Adopt-a-Highway cleanup

Shady Spring, WV (WOAY) “As the largest water provider in Southern West Virginia, it’s important to us to keep our community [and our watershed] clean,” said Beckley Water Company Maintenance Supervisor Greg Neely, wearing gloves and a high-visibility vest.

This Wednesday, employees of Beckley Water Company spent their morning cleaning up litter along the road near their Glade Creek Reservoir and Sweeneysburg treatment facilities. The company recently adopted the two-mile stretch for the state’s adopt-a-highway program. This Wednesday’s cleanup effort also celebrated Source Water Protection Week, which calls attention to the importance of caring for our natural sources of drinking water.

Chief Operator David Stover says that protecting the community’s source water is a priority this Wednesday and always:

“That’s something we take very seriously; litter along the reservoir. For part of our source water protection. So we try to keep everything tidy around the water supply.”

Beckley Water C.O.O. Jonathan Stanley says the Glade Water Treatment Plant supplies over 70% of the 11 million gallons the company provides daily for 70 thousand customers in Raleigh and Fayette Counties:
