HYDE — Slow starts have plagued the Clearfield boys soccer team at times this season, but the Bison wasted little time scoring Wednesday night against visiting Huntingdon — doing so just 28 seconds into the game.
That quick strike on a Collin Force shot from the top left corner of the Bearcats’ box proved to be all the offense Clearfield needed as the Bison put together a strong all-around team effort in controlling the tempo and possession for most of the night.
Clearfield, which improved to 5-4-1, limited the Bearcats (5-2-1) to five shots as Bison keeper Colby Guiher needed to make just three saves in posting a shutout. All three saves were above average ones to help preserve the shutout.
“That was a very good win,” said Clearfield coach Nick Walker. “Sometimes with the bus ride, people start slow, and that’s been our biggest struggle in the last couple games. We just give up a goal or two first, then having to battle back.
“But, usually when we score and the game goes on, we get more confident. That goal ... it was like life just went back into us and we played confident the whole game rather than playing on our heels.
