Black Hills Life Flight Enhances Emergency Response During Sturgis Motorcycle Rally In anticipation of the historically busy Sturgis Motorcycle Rally, now in its 85th year, Black Hills Life Flight has optimized its emergency air medical services across the region. To improve response times, an additional helicopter supplied by parent company Air Methods has been stationed at Black Hills Airport in Spearfish, supplementing their existing fleet of two helicopters and a fixed-wing aircraft positioned between Rapid City and Hot Springs. "Our aircraft are consistently stationed in Rapid City and operate around the clock throughout the year," explained Aaron Mitchell, a flight paramedic with Black Hills Life Flight. "The regional spare aircraft can be relocated if needed due to incidents or maintenance, but our primary aircraft remain operational at all times." Given the rugged terrain and winding roads in popular Black Hills destinations, ground ambulances can face delays.
