MANILA, Philippines — In a significant advancement for renewable energy, Black & Veatch has successfully completed the country's inaugural megawatt-scale floating solar photovoltaic (PV) installation. This milestone underscores progress in sustainable infrastructure and innovative energy solutions.
Commissioned by Carmen Copper Corporation, the three-hectare floating solar array on Malubog Reservoir comprises 8,540 solar panels, generating approximately 4.99 megawatts (MW) of clean power. This output supplies about 10% of the mine’s electricity, aligning with the Philippines Department of Energy's goal to achieve 35% renewable energy capacity by 2030. The project is designed for expansion up to 50 MW, with the potential to fully power Carmen Copper’s operations through renewable sources.
Jerin Raj, Asia Pacific managing director at Black & Veatch, stated, “This project demonstrates how engineering excellence combined with environmental responsibility can create transformative infrastructure. Our team collaborated closely with Carmen Copper to complete the project within 15 months, on schedule and within budget, totaling over 250,000 man-hours without injuries. We take pride in de...
