A familiar scene unfolded in the fourth inning of the Giants' game against the Minnesota Twins on Monday night at Oracle Park.
With the Giants leading 4-1, right-hander Blade Tidwell, who had tossed 3 1/3 frames of one-run ball, threw a sweeper for a ball to Ryan Jeffers and immediately signaled to the dugout that something was wrong. Moments later he walked off the mound with a trainer, and Trent Harris replaced him.
Tidwell's exit marked the third time in less than a month that a Giants starting pitcher has left a game early due to injury — Carson Whisenhunt sustained a torn UCL on Aug. 24 and underwent Tommy John surgery, and Adrian Houser suffered a right forearm strain the very next day but avoided surgery.
And on July 20, Trevor McDonald left the game after warming up in the fifth inning with an injury that ended up requiring Tommy John surgery, too.
The Giants have suffered a myriad of injuries during a 2026 MLB season that has gone wrong in just about every way imaginable. Earlier Monday, the team placed Jung Hoo Lee on the 10-day IL and Bryce Eldridge on the seven-day concussion list, too.
