BLOWING ROCK — The Blowing Rock Town Council approved a new three-way stop at one residential intersection while rejecting a similar stop at another, honored the local museums’ 15 years, and approved over $950,000 in infrastructure projects.
Police Chief Nathan Kirk presented two stop-sign requests for intersections at Laurel Park Road and Dogwood Lane as well as Country Club Drive and Country Club Lane.
Kirk proposed installing a three-way stop at the intersection of Laurel Park Road and Dogwood Lane to improve driver awareness, clarify right-of-way, and enhance safety in the residential area around the intersection.
The town previously changed a yield sign to a stop sign on Dogwood Lane, but Kirk said it has not improved the safety.
Kirk said he spoke with residents and cited a petition in favor of the three-way stop, signed by 79 residents.
For the Country Club Drive and Country Club Lane intersection, Kirk recommended against a three-way stop.
According to Kirk, the Lakehouse driveway has a stop sign for traffic turning onto both roads and the three-way stop is not warranted at this time.
