The development of a high-profile piece of land may be nearing as members of the Des Plaines Zoning Board of Appeals Tuesday night (Sept. 22) will hear plans for a scaled-down version of a residential and commercial development at Golf and Wolf roads.
At stake Tuesday is whether or not to grant Noah Properties of Schiller Park preliminary Planned Unit Development (PUD) approval for the project to construct a four-story building on the 6.37-acre site that will house 226 apartments and 5,500 sq. ft. of commercial space.
This new proposal replaces an earlier one for the property that was planned for a six-story apartment building of about 400 units, and some commercial space. That project never proceeded after many neighbors objected. Noah Properties has a contract to buy the acreage provided the city approves their plans.
Representatives of the developer met with neighbors on Sept. 10 and 17 to explain the proposal. The property is the former site of the large United Feather and Down building that was demolished a few years ago after the company’s closing in 2014. The land has remained vacant.
