Boaters rescued after hitting submerged object near Molokini
Maui firefighters rescued two men in distress after their fishing boat began tilting near Molokini Crater early this morning.
The Maui Fire Department received a call at 5:13 a.m. for boaters in distress, and responded with Rescue Boat 10. MFD says the 20-foot sport fishing boat was reported to have hit a submerged object near Molokini.
Upon arrival, firefighters found one man still on the boat, and the other on the eastern tip of Molokini islet.
They were able to rescue both men aboard Rescue Boat 10.
One man estimated to be in his 50s suffered leg injuries, while another man in his 70s had injuries to his torso. Both are Maui residents.
MFD provided both men with medical care en route to Kihei Boat Ramp, where they were met by an ambulance. Paramedics took the men to Maui Memorial Medical Center for further treatment.
