Boeing's Defense Manufacturing Workforce in St. Louis Prepares for Strike Following Contract Rejection
Union members involved in assembling Boeing's fighter jets and aerial refueling drones in St. Louis have decided to initiate a strike starting Monday at midnight after turning down the company's latest contract proposal, according to the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM). Union representative Tom Boelling emphasized that workers deserve an agreement that recognizes their expertise and vital role in national defense.
Boeing stated it is prepared for the strike, having implemented contingency plans. Vice President Dan Gillian expressed disappointment that employees rejected an offer featuring an average wage increase of 40%. The initial proposal included a 20% pay raise over four years, a $5,000 signing bonus, increased vacation and sick leave benefits, which the union deemed insufficient.
Recently, Boeing presented a revised offer with minor adjustments favoring senior union members and maintaining existing overtime policies, which the company previously sought to change.
