Luther Prep beat conference opponent St. John’s Northwestern Military Academy 5-3 on Wednesday at LPS.
Both teams played outstanding soccer throughout the 80 minutes of the game, but the visiting Lancers owned the first 20 minutes as they pounded the goal.
Gavin Exley found the scoreboard first as he rifled a shot home after beating three defenders off the dribble to open the scoring.
Then, St. John’s fired a shot from distance which LPS goalkeeper Conner Hinz deflected, and Librado Macias gathered up the loose ball for an easy score. Just before halftime, though, Andrew Taylor made a hustle play to win the soccer ball and score for Luther Prep just 84 seconds before the break.
The second half was littered with goals.
Luther Prep (5-2-1, 2-0-1 in conference) scored right away as Jael Palacios gave a pretty through pass to fellow junior Jakob Bourman to even the score.
Fifteen minutes later, St. John’s took a defensive deflection which found Juan Davila alone in front of the goal to score.
