Reynaldo Lopez got the start in yesterday’s series opener against the Cubs — just his second since returning from the IL — and it only took three innings before the game was totally out of hand.
Chicago put up three in the second before adding a couple more in the third. Lopez was out of the game by the fourth, and the Braves offense never really had a chance to overcome it despite a late rally towards the very end of the game.
It’s been a rough go of it for Lopez all season. He’s bounced between the rotation and the bullpen while also dealing with several minor injuries. Now it appears to all be over.
After the game, Braves beat reporter Mark Bowman reported Lopez will head to the IL with shoulder inflammation, a problem he says has bothered him at various times throughout the season. In a corresponding move, JR Ritchie will rejoin the major-league club and start on Wednesday following several stellar starts for Gwinnett.
