Broward County's First Day of School Brings Enhanced Security Measures
As the new school year begins, Broward County has strengthened its security protocols by implementing emergency alert badges for all staff members, designed for rapid response during crises.
Training and Implementation
Last Friday, staff at Coral Cove Academy of the Arts K-8 in Miramar received training on the new crisis alert system, marking the final phase of district-wide implementation. Approximately 30,000 badges have been issued across 250 schools, providing a direct line to alert administrators and emergency services.
Features of the Emergency Alert Badges
The badges include a panic button that, when pressed three times, signals a medical or suspicious incident requiring immediate attention. Pressing the button eight times initiates a full lockdown and notifies 9-1-1 responders. Emergency management coordinator Thomas Dusch explained that the system's purpose is to reduce response times by providing responders with precise location data, which moves with the wearer.
