Community's Rich History Inspires Local Hobbyist
In the quaint town of Buckland, a local resident's unique hobby highlights the community's rich history. Arnold Purinton, aged 84, has dedicated the past twenty years to meticulously carving wooden miniature replicas of notable town buildings. His handcrafted models include the Buckland Public Library, Wilder Homestead, Arms Academy, and even the iconic Bridge of Flowers, all crafted within his home workshop.
Inspiration and Craftsmanship
"Everything I create is inspired by Buckland," Purinton shared. "From the Mary Lyon House to the shoe shop and Wilder Homestead, my models reflect our town’s character."
Origins of the Hobby
Initially inexperienced in woodworking, Purinton took up this craft after retiring in 2005 to honor the town’s significant structures. His granddaughter, Erika Goddard, assists by photographing the sites, enabling him to accurately reproduce them using wood, glue, and paint.
