Canada Issues Updated Travel Advisory for Costa Rica Amid Rising Crime Concerns The Canadian government has revised its travel guidance for Costa Rica, urging citizens to exercise heightened caution due to an increase in violent and petty crimes in popular tourist regions. The advisory, released on July 31, highlights frequent incidents such as thefts, assaults, and armed robberies, especially in areas favored by international visitors like San José, Jacó, Manuel Antonio, Santa Teresa, Puerto Viejo, and Limón. Organized criminal groups often target tourists in transportation hubs, hotel lobbies, restaurants, and beaches, employing tactics to distract and rob victims.
