Five candidates are competing in the Nov. 3 general election for one of three four-year terms on the Sartell-St. Stephen school board. They are: Chris Chamberlain, Nate Crowe, Randy Kight and incumbents Emily Larson and Jen Smith.
Incumbent Scott Wenshau did not file for re-election. Besides Wenshau, Larson and Smith, the other incumbent members are Matt Moehrle, Chelsea Thielen and Tricia Meling.
Emily Larson, incumbent school-board member, decided to file for re-election because she said she believes her widely varied experiences and knowledge acquired during her first term will be strengths in a second term.
Larson was elected to the board in 2022. She has served on five board committees and has enhanced her knowledge of board governance at training sessions and annual conferences through the Minnesota School Board Association. She is also an elected delegate for Minnesota Director District 9 at the MSBA Delegate Assembly. There she represented this region as delegates who introduced, discussed and voted on education resolutions that shape the MSBA’s legislative priorities at the upcoming state legislative session.
