A longtime national comedy fixture is receiving care after a reported medical emergency.
Carrot Top, the 61-year-old comedian whose legal name is Scott Christopher Thompson, was hospitalized in Las Vegas following an apparent suicide attempt, according to multiple reports.
TMZ first reported Friday, Sept. 18, that Thompson had been taken to a local hospital. His scheduled performance that night at the Luxor Hotel & Casino was canceled.
His representative, Jami Schlicher, confirmed that Thompson was recovering and “receiving the care and support he needs.”
The representative said Thompson’s family was grateful for the public concern and prayers, while asking for privacy during his recovery. MGM Resorts, which owns the Luxor, also expressed support for the entertainer, according to reports.
KTLA and the Los Angeles Times also reported on the hospitalization.
Known for his bright red hair, rapid-fire prop comedy, and outsized stage persona, Thompson has been a familiar face in comedy for decades. He built a national following through television appearances, stand-up specials, and film roles, including “Chairman of the Board.”
