During their Tuesday meeting, Casper City Council members unanimously endorsed a resolution endorsing the transfer of land to the Bureau of Land Management (BLM). The proposed sale involves a parcel located near the Ford Wyoming Center, aimed at enhancing the interpretive facilities of the National Historic Trails Interpretive Center.
Initially, discussions in the July 22 session focused on selling approximately 60 acres, but during the meeting, a 10.9-acre section north of the Trails Center was excluded, resulting in a nearly 50-acre plot for sale. This proposal was first introduced during a pre-meeting on June 17.
In 2023, the council authorized a resolution giving the city manager authority to send a letter indicating interest in purchasing the land. To support the acquisition, the BLM sought a $3 million grant from the Land and Water Conservation Fund. Public input on potential uses for the land was solicited by the National Historic Trails Interpretive Center in early 2024.
No comments were made on the consent agenda items during the session.
