Casper College will be untangling quantum physics for Wyoming students with hands-on experiments funded by a just awarded $444,059 National Science Foundation grant.
“We want to make sure that we indulge and show people of all ages in all education levels, how quantum science can affect them,” said Casper College Physics and Astronomy Instructor Dr. Andrew Young
Dr. Young led the design of the “Quantum Pipeline” program to expand K-12 understanding of the atomic scale science of matter and energy that has helped create the modern world.
“There are a lot of discoveries made by Einstein, Max Planck, all these scientists — Heisenberg, Schrodinger— that lay the foundation for all the things we enjoy today, whether it's solar power or lasers or computer technology,” said Young.
Young worked in partnership with the University of Wyoming, Dr. Brian Helling of the Science Zone, and Texas A&M University on the project.
The grant will fund the distribution of 130 portable quantum science kits filled with experiments to elementary schools around the state with assistance from the University of Wyoming. These kits are intended to be reused with flexible materials for a variety of age-appropria...
