The royals put on a state banquet for the Sultan of Oman,at Windsor Castle and Cathy got to wear her princess regalia for the night. This is where we’re going have to admit our truth: State Dinner Cathy is our least favorite of the Cathy line of fashion dolls. Here’s why:
Her style has been slowly evolving into a more traditional, mature, retro and dowdy direction for several years now, but it’s when she has to go formal that all of her worst instincts come out. The late queen wore enough state dinner gowns to fill an airplane hangar, most of which reflected the styles of the times in which they were worn. She only settled into a sort of uniform when she reached an age where looking trendy would have made her look silly. Catherine is decades away from reaching that age, but she’s already adopted the late queen’s mature style and we’ve always presumed this was partially a rejection of Diana’s much more showy style, some of which hasn’t aged well and could arguably be seen as an example of how her approach to the role didn’t work out for her. This may be one of our least favorite of anything she’s ever worn. The style and design are limp and basic and the color isn’t really a good on...
