For the first time since the 2015 regular season when they went 9-1 overall, the Cecilia Bulldogs are 2-0 to begin a campaign.
Behind an opportunistic defense and an offense that capitalized on Teurlings Catholic’s mistakes, the Bulldogs defeated the Rebels 44-21 on Thursday.
“It’s huge,” Bulldogs head coach Cody Champagne said when asked how big of a win this was for his program. “We haven’t been 2-0 in Cecilia for a long time. You wouldn’t think that. But that’s huge. Going into a showdown with Barbe, it puts us in a good position.”
The Bulldogs’ defense recorded six turnovers – three interceptions, three fumble recoveries – two sacks and scored a touchdown late in the game to seal the victory.
“Our kids came out and played,” Champagne said. “Both teams made some mistakes, but I think we capitalized on their mistakes more in this game.”
Defensive back Damarcus Babineaux had a big night in the win for the Bulldogs’ defense, recording an interception that he returned 55-yards for a touchdown, while also picking up a solo sack in the third quarter.
