One of the most anticipated royal memoirs of the year will be published next week. Charles Spencer, the 9th Earl Spencer, is a prolific writer and has published several nonfiction works over the last three decades, including some about his extensive family history. But he has described Swan Song: Diana, My Sister, his first book specifically about his late sister Princess Diana, as “the most personal of the ten books” he has written yet, even more than A Very Private School, his 2024 memoir offering a candid account of a culture of cruelty at boarding school.
In an Instagram post on Friday, the Earl Spencer shared an image of himself holding a printed hardcover copy of the book, first remarking that it is “always an amazing, and exhilarating, moment for an author to hold the first physical copy of a new book.” But with Swan Song, he explained, it is even more special.
“At heart, this is a brother’s simple tribute to an extraordinary sister,” Spencer wrote. “A month ago I read Swan Song out, over three days, for a recording so that it could be available on audiobook.
