Updated: Flood warning issued for Charleston County on Tuesday night due to ongoing heavy rainfall.
The National Weather Service (NWS) Charleston SC issued a new flood advisory at 7:54 p.m. on Tuesday, remaining in effect until 10 p.m. for Charleston County.
The NWS warns of expected flooding resulting from excessive rain accumulation.
"Minor inundations are anticipated in low-lying and poorly drained zones," states the NWS. "Avoid flooded roadways; most flood-related fatalities happen in vehicles. Remember, turn around, don't drown."
This advisory is valid until 10 p.m.
NWS Recommendations for Flood Safety
Residents in flood-prone regions or camping in low areas should move to higher ground immediately. Follow evacuation orders promptly. When leaving, lock your property, disconnect utilities if feasible, and avoid basements or rooms with submerged electrical outlets or cords. If you notice sparks, buzzing, or popping sounds, evacuate immediately. Stay away from water that may be electrified.
Do not walk through floodwaters; just six inches of moving water can knock you over. If trapped, seek the highest point possible and call 911.
