CHARLESTON, Ill. (WTWO/WAWV) -- The Charleston Police Department announced the somber news that active K-9 Bolt passed away due to complications from kidney disease.
Bolt joined the department in March of 2023 and served alongside Officer Glidewell. In a social media post announcing Bolt's passing, police officials said he was a dedicated partner and valued member of the department.
"We extend our sincere gratitude to the Coles County Sheriff's Office, Eastern Illinois University Police Department, Lake Land Police Department, Mattoon Police & Fire Departments, and the Charleston Fire Department for their assistance in providing Bolt with a proper hero's send-off," said department officials in a social media post. "We also thank Albin Animal Hospital and the University of Illinois Veterinary Hospital for their compassionate care of Bolt as well as our current and former K-9 partners throughout the years."
