The Chicago Housing Authority (CHA) recently marked a significant milestone by sending off its largest cohort of high school graduates to higher education institutions. Over 200 residents are set to attend more than 70 colleges and universities nationwide.
As the new academic year approaches, many CHA graduates are embarking on their college journeys. At Malcolm X College, during the annual Take Flight event, students proudly showcased their future campuses, with 18-year-old Za'Nyah Banks sharing her plans to attend Marquette University in Milwaukee.
The event served both as a celebration of their achievements and as a practical gathering where families received essential dormitory supplies, including laundry bags, towels, sheets, and laptops. Banks' mother expressed gratitude for the support, noting that it alleviates some financial burdens.
Similarly, Ranye Holmes, who is headed to Morehouse College to study business and finance on a pre-law track, appreciated the event's assistance. His mother highlighted how the supplies and support help offset expenses like travel and tuition.
